Morning again, my Fibro friends!
I had a bad day yesterday and I figured out why. It reminded me of an article I read on one of the meds I'm taking and have been taking for many years. (Translation: I'm not dead or suffer any organ damage to date. Not a joke. I get my levels checked every 2-3 months. So should you if you are on medications and especially several medications.)
Here's what happened, I had read an article about the medication "Provigil", generic "Modafinil", which I take anywhere from 100 to 200 mgs on a daily basis. I have been sticking with 100 mgs lately, over the past several months.
This medication is prescribed to people who have sleep issues, do "shift work" i.e. from 11 pm to 7 am working hours, or people with Chronic Fatigue or Fibro.
Yesterday morning, in my "haste", I forgot to take the 100 mgs of Provigil. Actually I now take the generic because the cost is considerably lower.
As the day went on, I felt, not only tired, that bone-tired feeling we all get, but I felt extremely depressed and even a bit anxious. Nothing seemed to go right and I was "crabby" to put it mildly.
I now have a question for you and honestly, even more so, my Rheumatologist. I want to know if I could possibly go "off" of the antidepressants and survive on Provigil, simply by taking 200 mgs. instead of 100.
Your thoughts on this?
I actually had read an article, written by a physician and/or other "authority" on this medication (it was NOT a sales pitch). The article stated that aside from having the "more awake" effect that it should have, this medication also acted as an "antidepressant" although not mentioned in the literature or prescribed as such.
Yesterday, I unknowingly, proved this fact. I was not well, to say the least. I couldn't function much at all and even the smallest, most mundane task was a huge effort, akin to climbing Mt. Everest. :)
Again, if you have any thoughts or experience with this medication, please do express the here. I'd love to get your opinion.
Believe me, my Fibro friends, I'd love to manage my Fibro "naturally" with not an milligram of medication being ingested into my body. But for me, this simply isn't practical. I do not have the laid back, relaxed, meditative, yoga mindset 24/7.
Many of you are like me, because, in fact, that is why we (possibly) got Fibro in the first place. We are Type As, perfectionists and we push ourselves beyond reasonable limits.
If you are considering trying a new medication and have a huge problem with fatigue, weakness and are feeling somewhat depressed (who isn't!?), this Provigil (generic - Modafinil) would be MY first recommendation.
Until later today .......
Blessings....
Mo M.
PS Please go back to the "Coffee video" if you haven't watched it already....it's a good "watch". :)
