Fibro and the issue of SLEEP....zzzzzzzzz

My dear Fibro friends, sleep is one of our biggest issues. We can't seem to get enough and yet, when we "sleep in", we almost feel worse. The sleep is not restorative and when we try to stay in bed longer, our bodies stiffen and we end up in more pain. I remember having pain that would wake me from whatever little amount of sleep that I would get.

I wanted to just be numbed all over and I thought that was the solution. But, it truly isn't. I've taken many pain meds and I still have sleep issues and generally feel tired.

Now, the one thing I HAVE found that helps a bit is what I mentioned in a recent post. It's being as consistent as possible about when you go to bed and when you get up.

Today is a perfect example of how detrimental NOT following that advice can be. I had to get up at 6:30 am and I've been sleeping at least until 7:30 or 8am.

I felt awful and totally "foggy" as I drove the 20 miles to the doctor's office. I'll reiterate from my earlier post that it's probably a good idea to have someone drive you if you're feeling that "groggy". Because I had to have a "fasting" blood test, I couldn't eat or drink anything to help with the situation.

It really was a difficult start to the day. Now, as the day wore on, I got a bit better. However, towards the middle of the day I started to fade again. That afternoon slump became something I could barely fight. I tried drinking tea, eating a small piece of chocolate. I had to do whatever I could to stay awake. If I had fallen asleep this afternoon, I would have been non-functional to make dinner or anything else after that.

So, you see, that my advice of keeping the waking and sleeping time pretty much the same every day (EVEN on weekends) is really beneficial. I feel a bit more alert, less weak and certainly less "foggy" in the brain. : )

I would recommend it to those of you haven't tried it. You'll need to give it a week or two to actually start working to the point where you feel better.

Try it tonight, my dear sleepy Fibro friends.....

Until tomorrow...........

Blessings............

Mo M.
