Does Fibro make you more susceptible to other illnesses?

You have Fibro and you're weak, fatigued, achy, etc. There had been a time, many years ago, when people thought they should stay away from sick people because they were "already weakened" and didn't want to put themselves in harms way but exposing themselves to germs.

Honestly, folks, the news on Fibro now mainly points to "extra-sensitive" nerve endings and a "pain receptor" disorder that really has nothing to do with "immunity".

If your friend has a cold, you may or may not catch it. Your Fibro really doesn't impact your ability to fight infection, whether viral or bacterial.

There are still people who believe that Fibro is an immune disorder and most of my blood work and maybe yours, point to this NOT being the case. There is even research that shows that the pain "area" of the brain is more sensitive in individuals with Fibro (via MRI reports).

HOWEVER, I will say this. About two year ago during the winter, I got the flu. I have to tell you that, with Fibro, the flu can feel like the "Flu and a half". Because we are already experiencing flu-like symptoms on a daily basis, the flu can feel worse. The aches and sweats and weakness are all increased and you do feel pretty lousy. However, you recover from it eventually and need to take care of yourself just like the "non-Fibro" patient would. Plenty of fluids, rest and keeping the fever down as much as possible.

Otherwise, you needn't walk around with a mask on if your family or friends are sick. Just keep washing your hands and stay your distance. You already don't feel wonderful on a daily basis, but getting sick with a cold will not kill you. Unless you have some OTHER underlying illness in your body that WOULD affect one's immunity, you will fight whatever "bug" you get, just like the average person.

Any comments are welcomed. You certainly may have your own opinion or research that would make you disagree. I would really love to hear from you....

Until then.....

Blessings......
