I have done some research on the subject of menstruation and Fibro. I have often found that the week before my period, my Fibro symptoms seem to escalate.
To put it simply, which is how I need things put, the fluctuating hormone levels can lead to more pain. Now, how's that for simple. Of course, if you really wanted to get clinical about it, we could. But why?
The point is this, if you feel more pain before and during your period, you are justified in feeling that pain.
Also, for those of you who are at a "ripe" age, like me....49...or older, you may either be in perimenopause or full blown menopause. I'm in the first one. I find that because of the fluctuating estrogen levels, my mood swings and the hot flashes, I tend to have more pain on and off, with no real "pattern".
There's no pattern because, if you're in perimenopause (which is a signal that menopause is coming), you never really know when you're period is coming. I will sometimes have my period two times a month and then not get it for 3-4 months. It's frustrating for sure.
I think that if we understand these things we can take care of ourselves accordingly. We don't have to worry about WHY we're feeling a certain way. These things help me and I hope they help you.
Of course, there are things you can do to lessen your symptoms and we'll discuss those. Beyond the medicinal or herbal remedies, which I'm currently re-researching and updating my knowledge on, we can find ways to take better care of ourselves.
We'll talk more about this. But, of course, your suggestions would add another great dimension to this discussion.
Women, what has been your experience with Fibro and your menstrual cycles? It can be a difficult time, I know.
I also have another question to ask....how many of you either have or think you have endometriosis?
We'll discuss this situation soon again....
Blessings....
