Well, I decided that my efforts at "home" employment weren't working. In addition, over the years, especially having worked in Human Resources for much of my former (pre-disability) career, I had become a "people person" (NEVER USE THAT PHRASE IN AN INTERVIEW!). But I DID love people and loved to get to know them, talk to them, etc.
I applied for an ad. on "Craigslist.org" for a local health club at the front desk. I had been a member of this club many years ago before I became ill.
I did manage to get an interview, during which I asked the "main" supervisor if I was able to sit at all during my shift. She said "no". I was honest with them about my ability to stand for up to 8 hours (depending on the shift) straight.
HOWEVER, there was another position that was available and this supervisor thought I might be good for it. It was with another area...the program area. This meant I'd help set up classes, seminars, etc.
Well, I hit it off with the "new" supervisor over the "programs" area and was hired immediately. I worked their from August of that year until April of the following year.
Why did I quit?
Well, my Fibro friends. As you may know from your own Type A personality, not only was my supervisor a "high energy" and demanding type, but I expected even more of myself. I was bringing it home. I was stressed and, as you can imagine, my symptoms started to increase again.
The deal breaker was when I developed a pretty bad cold, sinus infection and finally bronchitis. My doctor was not happy, nor was I. The supervisor was getting on, not only my nerves but, the nerves of everyone around us.
Finally, I talked to my spouse and we decided it was time to quit.
I did in April of that year and decided to take some time and figure out what to do with the rest of my life.
That was four years ago. HOWEVER, there was one more job attempt....and this was was the most successful, not really from the financial perspective but from the physical perspective. Please hold on....
more details to follow about my last "real job" .....
Blessings.....surround you today....write them down.....even that glass of water you'll drink....2/3 of the world's population doesn't even have that.
Mo M.
