...the most for me have been discipline, responsibility and integrity.
First let's look at discipline. Discipline is extremely important to the success of any venture because without using discipline, you are LITERALLY "all over the place". You eat the wrong things, do the wrong things and even think or say the wrong things. I will go into more detail about discipline with regard to my health. I want to make this process as easy as possible though, so everything you do today, make sure you are using "discipline" in your comings and goings. Are you eating a huge piece of cake or a healthy meal? If you don't have time to cook a healthy meal, there are many healthy take out alternatives that DO NOT include burgers and fries. So, whatever you do, make a disciplined choice. Another example of discipline, not related to eating (I do not use the word dieting in my vocabulary), is in the workplace. If a co-worker gets you angry, do you start screaming at them or take a break and walk outside, NOT FOR A CIGARETTE, but for a walk, to blow off some steam. Discipline in that situation, can save you a ton of stress, anxiety and even your job!?
Secondly we have responsibility. Are you being responsible when it comes to taking care of yourself. Are you keeping those doctor's appointments? Are you making them? Are you making them for any children you may have, for the dentist, etc.? Being responsible means taking care of what you have, being responsible for your health, home, family and finances. Are you being a responsible consumer or spending whatever you "feel" like.
Feelings and fibro can be a very difficult tightrope. So, if you're "feeling" bad physically, be responsible and don't go off the deep end. Call your doctor for meds, advice or take a break and lay down. That way, you are a better employee, mom, family member, daughter, whatever your role may be. Be responsible for yourself. It can save you your health and possibly your life!?
Finally, you ask, "Why integrity has anything to do with feeling well with Fibro?". Well, integrity means, doing what's right even when you don't feel like it. In other words, telling the truth about a situation at work if YOU made the mistake, being honest about your condition with your doctor and Social Security Disability on your "application/forms", and finally not gossiping at the lunch/coffee table at work. These are only a few examples of integrity. When you're worn down from Fibro, how do you handle these situations. Be honest with yourself and others. If you aren't, you weave a tangled web from which you may not be able to extricate yourself. For one, insurance/Medicare/SSDI fraud is not a good thing for you OR your Doctor and can result in fines or worse imprisonment. Being honest about a mistake at work gives you more credibility with your boss and coworkers and the TRUTH really DOES set you free! Finally, gossiping, well, think about it this way; put yourself in the place of the person who is the victim of the gossip. IF that doesn't stop you, then think about every word you're saying being printed in bold type, quoted by YOU on the front of tomorrow's headlines in the newspaper. Talk about stress!?! Any of these situations are stressful if not economically and emotionally devastating. Why do them?
If you think about it, these things are all dealt with in a very handy and valuable self-help book; The Bible.
Find a Bible with a concordance, look up the these traits. You will find scriptures that will be part of your life forever.
If you develop these traits in every aspect of your life, I can almost guarantee you more peace, less stress and a happier life in general. I'm still working on them EVERY SINGLE DAY, but they are well worth it!
Until later, as today is CLEANING day and I'm trying to be "disciplined" about keeping my house clean,
I will chat more about the discipline aspect I first mentioned and how it affects everything you do.
Enjoy your day....
Blessings....are all around you.....
