If you have fibromyalgia and have either lost your job or do not have to work, so you choose not to, I feel for you.
For the most part, I always encourage Fibro-fighters to either keep their job, or find one, if AT ALL possible.
I'll tell you why. Today is a perfect example to tell my story.
I went to bed last night, with all good intentions of getting up early, avoiding the hot morning sunshine and taking a walk, and getting the grocery shopping done early.
This is why I stress "discipline" so very often. Discipline, would, let's hope, have required me to LISTEN and OBEY my alarm when it went off at 7:30 am.
Instead, I hit the snooze a few times and finally shut down the alarm altogether.
Here's the problem. I, then, woke at a ...NOT EARLY ....10:15 am.
What's the point, you say? If I'm on disability why not sleep in, and for that matter, why not just laze around all day long.
Well, my friend, if you do this often enough, whether on disability or simply not working, you can tend to feel "depressed" (it's been scientifically proven), feel "useless" (like, "What am I here for anyway, if I have NO set time that I have to be anywhere?) and finally what should I make my priority now that it's so late in the day.
I feel all of those things right now. HOWEVER, I will overcome them. I DO have to grocery shop. I will probably skip my walk, and will do some laundry to try to get something accomplished.
If we are working, we tend to have a "pre-set" purpose in our life. We have a "job to do" , people with whom to collaborate, and a "forced" motivation to keep us going.
We tend not to get depressed because we don't "implode" and beat ourselves up for being "slugs" in the eyes of the outside world. I had a girlfriend who loved to make "digs" about the "lateness of my risings" on certain days. She would text me and I would feel "guilty" when I saw that her text was at 8 am and I was reading it, having just crawled out of bed at 10 am.
STOP IT MY FRIENDS!!! STOP THIS SELF-ABUSE! First of all, I will say that sometimes, your body NEEDS that extra rest. Let those days happen on and off.
HOWEVER, if you find this becoming a regular occurrence and you don't feel "right", feel somewhat or fullblown depressed about this "awakening time", then do something about it.
Read on.....for my next post. We are going to work on this together. : )
hang in there with me Fibro Fighters!
